In Inka I performed the character Mia, the girlfriend of Isaac. When portraying Mia I needed to establish her connection and understanding of Inka. At the beginning of rehearsals myself and the director wanted to characterise Mia and discover why she was in love with Isaac and why she disliked Inka. At the start of the process the writing portrayed Mia hating Inka yet wanting to sell her to the investors. The character Mia needed development as there was a lack of depth to her character. After myself and the director had spoken about this, a new scene was written to adapt the character’s view. In this new scene Mia is definite that she does not like Inka and that Inka should not exist. This developed my characterisation as I then understood the purpose of the character to the play and also to Isaac. The importance of Mia to Isaac is shown through the Isaac’s line to Mia “I need your help to defend me” as this showed the audience Isaac needed a protector, his mother, Inka and Mia. It changed the situation and created depth and purpose to the women in Isaac’s life.
The two images show myself playing Mia and Charlie Leader playing Isaac in the dress rehearsal.
